2010-2011 Pre-Kindergarten Program
Our Mission Statement:
We empower children to become emerging learners through stimulating instruction, creative educational curriculum and a positive learning environment.
Program Overview
The Pre-Kindergarten class is comprised of four and five year olds who will begin Kindergarten in the Fall of the following year. This class focuses on beginning reading skills (encompassing phonemic awareness, rhyme, syllabication and writing), numerical concepts (enhancing number recognition, value, writing and manipulation), and a variety of other skill concepts to prepare for Kindergarten. Our 2-day program runs on Mondays and Wednesdays from 12:30 to 3:30 p.m. or Tuesdays and Thursdays from 8:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. or 12:30 to 3:30 p.m. Our 3-day program runs on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays from 8:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. or 12:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m.
Staffing
Each class consists of fourteen students, one certified teacher and one assistant. Our staff completes a background check and an infant/child CPR certification class each year.
Curriculum
Through an academic focus, we instruct our young students in the following skill areas:
• Language and Listening
• Science Exploration
• Social Interaction
• Cultural Diversity
• Music and Art
• Creative Play
• Citizenship
• Gross/Fine Motor Skills
• Sign Language
• Pre-Reading and Pre-Math Skills
Program Design
Our Pre-Kindergarten program is designed for interactive learning. Students begin each class session in an instructional setting; this is where letters, numbers, music, literature and other focus skills are introduced. The children are then offered opportunities to explore and learn in individualized centers where they work independently as well as in teacher directed activities.
Resources include a sand and water table, complete play kitchen, listening center, computers, art easels, Thomas-the-Train play center, musical instruments, magnetic wall, educational games and puzzles, a variety of building materials, reading library, dramatic play and parachute play activities.
